Steps

1.  If the exponent is less than or equal to 4 go directly to the chart.

2.  If the exponent is greater than four, divide the exponent by four and use the remainder as the new exponent.  Then use the chart.

        Directions:  Please simplify the following powers of i.

Step 1 Step 1
The exponent is less than or equal to four.  Therefore we use the chart and see that i3=-i The exponent is greater than four, therefore we must divide by four and find the remainder.
Step 2
705/4=175 with a remainder of 1.  Therefore,

i705 = i1= i
