Step 1 P Parentheses (This means the operations inside the parentheses, not distribution)
Step 2 E Exponents
Step 3 MD Multiplication AND Division (Done as they appear left to right.)
Step 4 AS Addition AND Subtraction  (Done as they appear left to right)

        Directions:  Please simplify using PEMDAS.

    

Step 1 Do all the operations inside the Parentheses.

Note:  There are two operations inside the parentheses, multiplication and subtraction.  Multiplication will be done before subtraction.
Step 2 Simplify the Exponents.

Step 3 Simplify all Multiplication and Division.

1. Why do we include the sign of the number with every operation with do? Why is this especially important with multiplication? Include examples either from the problems above or ones that you make up yourself.
