Steps

Step 1 Call the first integer x.
Step 2 Make a table that has a variable expression for every unknown integer that the problem requires.  Because consecutive integers are one apart, we can use the x, x+1, x+2.... pattern.
Step 3 Write an equation that reflects the information in the problem.  (Look for the is.)
Step 4 Solve the equation.
Step 5 Answer the question.

Examples Done by Mr. Vizza

Directions:  Please answer the following question.

    The sum of four consecutive integers is 138.  What is the product of the third and fourth integers?

Step 1 Let x = 1ST integer
Step 2
x 1ST INTEGER
x+1 2ND INTEGER
x+2 3RD INTEGER
x+3 4TH INTEGER
Step 3 x+(x+1)+(x+2)+(x+3)=138
Step 4 4x+6=138

4x=132

x=33

Step 5 The third and fourth integers are 35 & 36

There product is 35*36=1260
