A

Angular Displacement (Not Speed) - When a point on a circle rotates, angular displacement is the amount of angle it rotates through.

Angular Velocity - The amount of angular displacement per time.

B

C

Central Angle - An angle having its vertex at the center of a circle. (This makes the rays of the angle the radii of the circle and where they intersect the circle an intercepted arc is created. This measure must be in radians when doing intercepted arc, angular velocity, linear velocity, and angular displacement problems.)

Commutative Property - the ability to change the order of an operation without changing the outcome, such as

a+b=b+a and ab=ba

Cosine (pure definition) - The cosine of an angle, theta, in standard position is the x-coordinate of the ordered pair that intersects the unit circle and the terminal side of the angle theta

Cosine (formula when given an ordered pair)

cos (theta) = x/r

x is from the ordered pair and r = sqrt(x2+y2)

Cycle - one repetition or iteration of a periodic function

D

Domain - the input values of a function; the set of x values in a relation

E

Evaluate - to determine the worth or amount by simplifying with PEMDAS often after a substitution is performed

Even Function - a function in which f(x)=f(-x) for all values of x

Expression - a number written in symbolic notation usually involving variables and operations

F

Factoring - rewriting/reexpressing an exrpession as a multiplication

Function - a function is a relation, rule or mapping in which all members of the domain gets paired to exactly one member of the range; graphs of functions pass the vertical line test

G

H

I

Initial Side Of An Angle - the positive x axis (usually not drawn)

Intercepted Arc - The part of a circle created by the intersections of the rays of the central angle.

J

K

L

Linear Velocity - The linear distance traveled by a point on a circle per unit of time.

M

Monomial - an expression consisting of only one term

N

O

Odd Function - a function in which f(-x)=-f(x) for all values of x

P

Period - the width of one repetition or cycle in a periodic function

Periodic Function - is a function that repeats; it is a function in which different inputs yield the same output; there exists a positive number, p, such that f(x)=f(x+p)

Polynomial - an expression consisting of one or more terms

Q

Quantity (layman's terms) - a bunch of stuff in parentheses

R

Range - the output values of a function; the set of y values in a relation

Relation - a set of ordered pairs

S

Simplify - to restate the value of a number with the smallest expression possible

Sine (pure definition) - The sine of an angle, theta, in standard position is the y-coordinate of the ordered pair that intersects the unit circle and the terminal side of the angle theta

Sine (formula when given an ordered pair)

sin (theta) = y/r

y is from the ordered pair and r = sqrt(x2+y2)

Solution - a piece of information that makes a given statement or asked question true

Solution Set - a set that contains all the possible solutions to a given statement or an asked question

Solve - to determine all the values for a variable or a set of variables that make a equation true

Substitute - to swap identical values

T

Terminal Side Of An Angle - the side of the angle you can see in the xy plane

U

Unknown - a number usually expressed with a letter whose value is fixed (not the same as a variable)

V

Variable - a number that is usually expressed with a letter whose value can change (not the same as an unknown)

W

X

Y

Z
